Water Aid

Last school year The Rocking Rights Respecting Group lead the school to help children and their families around the world. We supported Article 24 from the CRC which says, “All children should have clean water, food that is good for them, a clean place to live and good health care.”

We raised money to support the work of Shelterbox. It is a charity that provides emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for families around the world who are affected by disasters.

They send a Shelterbox which contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, water storage and filtration equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items. This helps families survive the first days, weeks and months as they try to rebuild their lives. Each box costs £590.

We had a school sale in the summer term of cakes, drinks and books and a non-uniform day. We held collections  at the Christmas shows too.

We were very proud, as we raised £672

We have already helped a family in Guatemala and have 2 more boxes waiting ready to be sent out.

This year we wanted to support another charity that helps children around the world to receive their rights.

Article 12 of the CRC says that children should have a chance to say what they think about things so the Rocking Rights Respecting Group chose 4 charities and then the school had a vote. The winner was Water Aid. We will be having a fundraising day on June 21st.
